How old are you today?
Today I’m four and I learned that Rice Krispie Treats sooth a skinned knee and that I love chewy food that also crunches.
The other day around 2 p.m. I was restless and the boiler in my apartment building was out so I couldn’t take a shower, a routine that usually works to get me focused. So, I decided to take a walk to the store for something sweet to eat with my afternoon coffee.
The first shop I stopped at only had a few scones left over from the morning rush. I wanted a cookie or chocolate, so I kept walking. The pre-packaged cookies in the grocery store weren’t right either. There were too many in a pack and I wanted something a little more special.
Then I remembered that my new-and-already-good-friend, the one who shared the prompt that became the title of this post, indulges in decadent desserts with her afternoon tea. Which made me remember CHOCnyc, a pastry shop a little further up Broadway. I rarely go there because I have more of a salty tooth than a sweet one but I knew they’d have something wonderful that would satisfy my craving.
I’ve been paying close attention to what I want and, like a kiss on a band-aid-ed knee, fulfilling those little desires makes everything better.
I studied the counter at CHOCnyc. Devil’s food cakes, red velvet cake, pretty berry tarts, lemon bars, peanut butter cookies, chocolate covered graham crackers. I chose not one but two sweets: a chocolate dipped macaroon and a chocolate covered s’more.
I walked back home with my back of treats, not down Broadway but through the park where the daffodils were blooming and trees ripening with green buds. I reheated some morning coffee and despite my cutting the s’more in half, I ate the whole thing, licking chocolate from my fingers.
Here’s to delicious moments!
Warmly,
Tiffany
